Geofoam Blocks
Geofoam blocks are lightweight, closed-cell geosynthetic materials with high strength and low density, widely used in geotechnical engineering applications. The blocks are manufactured from expandable polystyrene beads through a controlled process involving pre-expansion, conditioning and molding.

Properties and Manufacturing Process
Geofoam blocks are typically manufactured as prismatic blocks approximately 100–120 cm wide, 200–500 cm long and 50–60 cm high. Due to their extremely low weight, they can be easily handled and installed without the need for heavy construction equipment. Their closed-cell structure provides low water absorption, while controlled manufacturing ensures consistent material properties. Geofoam is a durable and recyclable material that does not readily biodegrade in the environment.
Applications and Advantages
Geofoam blocks can be manufactured efficiently and installed rapidly, providing a practical and cost-effective alternative to conventional fill solutions. Their low unit weight can significantly reduce loads on underlying soils and structures while simplifying construction. For these reasons, geofoam is widely used in a variety of geotechnical engineering applications both in Türkiye and around the world.
