Site Conditions
- Within the scope of the luxury villa development in Zekeriyaköy, fill construction was required above the reinforced concrete basement slabs for landscaping and internal access purposes.
- Considering the design loads of the reinforced concrete structural elements, the additional loads generated by conventional compacted fill were assessed to exceed acceptable limits.
- A lightweight fill solution capable of safely carrying vehicle loads was required for the construction of internal access roads and parking areas within the villa development.
- In accordance with the project schedule, the fill works had to be completed within a short construction period.
Designed Solution
- Construction of the fill areas above the basement slabs using Geofoam block lightweight fill technology.
- Design of a reinforced concrete load distribution platform over the Geofoam block fill system to safely distribute vehicle loads.
- Construction of the villa access roads, parking areas and landscaped areas over the Geofoam lightweight fill system.
Advantages of the Applied Geotechnology
- Due to the low unit weight of the Geofoam blocks, additional vertical loads acting on the reinforced concrete structure were significantly reduced.
- The required grade raising was safely achieved while remaining within the load-carrying capacity limits of the reinforced concrete slabs.
- The reinforced concrete load distribution platform designed over the Geofoam block fill system enabled vehicle loads to be distributed in a controlled manner.
- As Geofoam blocks do not require conventional layer-by-layer placement and compaction, the fill works were completed within a short construction period.
- By using lightweight fill technology, a durable and reliable solution was provided for both vehicle access areas and landscaped areas.
