- A requirement to obtain a level working surface by filling the space between the waler beams of the temporary shoring system prior to construction of the reinforced concrete metro shaft structure, in order to reduce concrete consumption

- Placement of geofoam block fill between the waler beams of the temporary shoring system
Advantages of the Applied Geotechnology
- The use of geofoam blocks reduced the amount of concrete required for construction of the metro shaft reinforced concrete structure.
Performance Under Service Loads
- The geofoam block fill was designed through an engineering-based approach considering the anticipated staged construction sequence of the reinforced concrete structure. During the concrete curing period, the deformation behavior of the geofoam blocks followed the expected trend.
