Site Conditions
- A bored pile excavation support system was planned along the site boundary.
- Prior to the bored pile works, a working platform had to be constructed along the site boundary using excavated material to allow the piling rig (Bauer BG36) to operate at the designed pile installation elevations.
- Construction of the working platform using conventional fill would have imposed additional loads on the existing parking structure that had not been considered in the original structural design.
Designed Solution
- Construction of the piling rig working platform using lightweight geofoam block technology.
Advantages of the Applied Geotechnology
- The increase in vertical stresses acting on the existing parking structure during the piling works was maintained within safe allowable limits.
