Designed Solution

  • Design of a preloading program to enable construction of the permanent engineered fill required for hydraulic purposes within the footprint of the approach embankment without the need for ground improvement,
  • Development of an instrumentation and monitoring program consisting of piezometers, settlement plate stations and periodic elevation monitoring to track the progress of preloading and determine the appropriate time for termination of the preloading stage,
  • Following completion of preloading, design of the bridge approach embankments using geofoam block technology without inducing additional stress increases on the permanent fill,
  • Performance of internal and external stability analyses of the geofoam block bridge approach embankments under dead and live design loads in accordance with the relevant design specifications,
  • Preparation of construction specifications and method statements for the construction of the geofoam block bridge approach embankments.
